Should I Wait Until I Lose Weight to Try Body Contouring?

Getting to your ideal body shape has been a roller coaster ride — a ride you’re ready to get off. The good news is that for the millions of Americans who are carrying extra pounds — more than 42% of adults in the United States have obesity — there are some fantastic, noninvasive fat-reduction technologies that can help.

There were nearly 746,000 of these fat-reduction procedures — also called body sculpting or contouring — performed in the US in 2023, which represents a 9% increase over 2022. This significant jump is a testament to how well fat reduction works in getting to your ideal body shape.

Here at Humble Cardiology, Dr. Madaiah Revana and the team are pleased to offer fat reduction with our cutting-edge Zerona® system. This innovative technology is an excellent solution for body contouring, but it works best when you’re within your ideal weight range.

Fat reduction versus weight loss

While we love our Zerona technology for its ability to help our patients to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat, we caution against viewing it as a weight loss solution.

If you’re overweight or have obesity, it’s a good idea to first start with a healthy diet and exercise to shed some of the excess pounds before embarking on noninvasive fat reduction. By losing weight ahead of time, you can see where your problem areas are — fat tends to be more stubborn in certain areas, depending upon your sex and your genetics.

Once you shed the excess pounds across your body, these stubborn pockets will reveal themselves, and we can get to work with Zerona. This is why we refer to systems like Zerona as body contouring and sculpting — they put the finishing touches on your weight loss efforts.

If you’re already within your ideal weight range, then you’re ready for your fat reduction treatments right away.

Releasing fat from your cells

In general, you carry the same amount of fat cells throughout your life, and they’re an integral part of your health and wellness.

When you gain weight, existing cells grow in size, not in number, which is what leads to the outward appearance of fat.

With our Zerona technology, we deliver cold laser energy into the fat cells, causing them to release their stores of fat and shrink down. The fat that the cells release is then processed and flushed out of your body naturally.

Fat reduction with Zerona

As a noninvasive treatment, we can trim down many different areas on your body with Zerona, including your:

Since the Zerona technology is so safe, we can use the system almost anywhere you want to recontour.

In most cases, we need to perform a series of Zerona treatments, and the number of sessions we recommend depends on the size of the treatment area and your goals. In most cases, 3-6 sessions work well, and we space them apart to allow time for your body to respond and flush out the fat between treatments.

To determine whether you’re ready for Zerona body contouring or whether you might benefit from some weight loss ahead of time, it’s a good idea to come talk with us. If we do recommend shedding some pounds before your fat-reduction treatments, we can help by tailoring a weight loss plan specific to your needs.
